| The virtual tour
starts at the Tourist Information bureau (see below) and slowly winds through
the following sites: |

The tour continues at
the 15th stop
|
|
Station 15: Ochsenhauser Hof
|
| |
|
Sometime before 1528 this half-timbered
house was built as an annex of the Ochsenhauser Monastery. It is a
nobleman's house with servant's quarters and stable on the ground
floor and adjacent building, notarial rooms and nobleman's rooms on
the second and third floors. The attic has a half-hipped roof and
what is called a Kehlbalkendach (see
construction here).
Barons. Augustin Heinrich von Pflummern and Joh. Rupert von Pflummern
owned the house from 1736 to 1775. During this time the Pflummern
family and the Kaiser's Recruiting Officer resided in the house. In
1775 the house was transformed into a Catholic Latin school and a
house for its professors. From 1806 to 1961 it served as a high school
for the city of Biberach.

|
As
we go back from the Weaver's museum to the Ochsenhauser Hof we pass
the Wielandhaus (Wieland's house). The store in the house specializes
in every conceivable type of angel.
|
This
plaque tells us why this is the Wieland House - the Great-Grandfather
of the famous poet lived her. Across from it is the Café Weichhardt,
also
on the square in front of the Ochsenhauser Hof is the
Café Kolesch..
|
Continue
to the right and take a left on Consulentengasse.
|
|
|
|
|
Younger and more
outgoing tour-takers should relax in Tweety (used to be called Schwarzen
Adler). Everyone should at least take one look inside.
|
Directly next to
Tweety is the most Swabian pub you will ever encounter: Zum
Goldenen Rebstock (usually called Stecken). Inside you will
find something truly special: a Whisk(e)y
room. Across the street is an unfortunate example of the city's
attempt at preservation. The fire brigade suspects arson.
|
We wont worry about
this controversy, by the time you are reading this, the building
will probably have been demolished - after years of arguing between
its owner, the city and the neighbours about the plans for the new
building to replace it. We will continue down Consulentengasse heading
directly for the donkey who stands before us with all of his might.
|
|
|
There is so much
to say about the donkey that I can't explain it all here. Click
here for more detailed information in German.
At the donkey go left towards the monstrous St. Martins. This church
has an enthralling history. It is actually a fake church with a
very long tradition. . Klicken Sie hier.
MAnything peculair about this church? Yes! It is shared by Protestants
and Caholics, as a so-called Simultankirche
with a very old tradition.
|
|
Station 16: Stadtpfarrkirche St. Martin
If you want to know why this church is
so special, learn fluent German, and read about it here.
